The 2013 Nova Scotia Provincial Election

I am Bob Fougere, an interested citizen who has been disillusioned with the recent history of politics in the province. I have spent most of my working career in the health care system of NS, in various management positions and more recently served five years on the Capital District Health Authority’s Board of Directors. Since retirement I have been very active as a volunteer working toward changes in the small ‘P’ political life of the province.

Election Results:

The Liberals have a substantial majority - just as I predicted - not saying 'I Told You So'. (Oct. 8,2013)

Now we will wait to see how they do -

  • Health regions
  • Power Rates
  • Home for Colored Children -  Public Inquiry
  • Trades Standards
  • Jobs

Another issue of particular concern to me is how the guidelines for implementation of the funding for SRS will be handled.

In this blog I will reflect upon how things are unfolding:

I am very pleased to report that (I just found out (Oct 23, 2013)) "...The following deputy minister(s) will be leaving the public service effective immediately: Kevin McNamara, Department of Health and Wellness..."

I don't know if this blog served to provide any input into this decision but, as you can see from the insert, I think this is the right thing to do; and to do it so quickly is decisive and bold. Congratulations Stephen McNeil and company! Keep up the good work.

This is a quote from a previous post:

((...One thought that I have...is that the current Deputy Minister of Health Wellness is not the right person for the job. If my understanding is correct his appointment was a political one (a reward so to speak). I stand to be corrected on (the nature of this appointment) but my experience dealing with his administration has not been positive. If anyone would like to chat about this point I would welcome the opportunity. (Posted Oct. 9))

Another peace of advice - Government should make sure that the new deputy minister has a strong grounding in Health Administration. For that they may have to go outside the province.

For now I will leave my thought on the last administration up on the page in case anyone is interested in checking it out.

These are issues I addressed:
