Arriving in the port of Kiel early in the morning, we had a leisurely breakfast and got ready for the day. Kiel is located at the entrance to the world's busiest man-made waterway - The Kiel Canal.
Our tour started with a bus ride lasting only ninety minutes and arrived in Hamburg about 11AM, after a bit of confusion picking up our tour guide. Unfortunately this was the guide's first tour and the bus driver got lost a few times. The guide was trying to provide commentary, at the same time she was acting as the navigator for the driver...not such a good tour.
We had a little free time and wandered around a busy part of town - had lunch in a mall food court - found a compfortable place to sit - only to discover that we were sitting in a restricted area. Because of the language barrier, the staff could not get us to understand until we were about finished. We were a bit embarrassed. In any case we finished the tour and returned to the ship early.

The new concert hall...more than double the cost estimate and at least seven years behind schedule. |
Many canals near the waterfront which housed numerous warehouses; now with the use of containers, being turned into a high-end residential area. |
