The Oosterdam is one of the Holland America mid-size ships...not like some of the current "behemoths of the seas". On board were pools, a number of dining options (24/7), bars/discos, a theatre, a casino (where Bob won $1,000 US), a showroom with different entertainment every night, and many, many more interesting things to see and do. Dining was first class...drinks were not too bad either! Room service is available around the clock. Although the cabins are small, we always book accommodations with a private balcony.

This is an example of what was on our bed each night. |
These young folks told us that they would recommend this cruise for teenagers. |
Dinner |

Two nights we had formal dinners. |

We learned that most cruise ships have a crew that is predominantly from the same country. Our crew were Filipino, all with families back home. They are onboard for (at least) six-month stints...getting home only in the case of extreme emergencies. |

Desert Extravaganza |
|
Can you see the dragon? |
|
The desert extravaganza was staged around the entire pool area, which included ice sculptures that had been carved in the pool area during the day. That was a show in itself. These pictures are a tiny sample of what was on display and what was eaten a little later in the evening. |
