Navplion
Greece

After a day at sea we arrived in Navplion:

Navplion, on the southern part of the Peloponnisos region, was around as early as the 7th - 8th century BC. There remains little indication of the early Greek and Roman occupation of this area.
In the earlier 1700's it became an outpost of Venice. The influence of the Venetians is still very visible.

Harbour Fort

The early Venetians built this fortress in the middle of the harbour as a first defence.
They also built the fortress of Palamidi pictured below. Since that time it has been captured many times by invading forces and used by them as a defence; as late as World War II by the Germans.

Fort

The fortress of Palamidi - on the crest of a 216-metre high hill. There is a stairway (sometimes with no safety barrier) on the side of the cliff. One may climb the stairs to the top, or as most people do (including Ernie & Stephen), take a ride up the back side and walk down the stairs. Sam's comment "There was no way in H--l that I was going to do that!"
