We travelled by train for an hour south of Paris to Orleans and rented a car to visit Poupry and Artenay. (An 8hr round trip from the Gare D'Austerlitz station in Paris.)

These pictures were taken around the village...population approx 99 (2012). It is likely that some of these structures were inhabited by our ancestors back in the 1600s. The Nova Scotia Fougeres (five brothers) came from Poupry to Nova Scotia around 1700.

These are the views as we entered the village.

These houses are still occupied.

They are located to the left as we face the front door of the church.

We actually tried to speak to an old guy who was living in the building to the right in this picture. (He poked his head out of the window and called us over. He could not understand a word we said - nor us him - but he was very friendly.)

This Church is probably Roman Catholic - the stone work is very weak and the doors look like it may have been a long time since they were last used.

This is a panorama of more buildings on the same street. In fact the last building to the right is the same on on the left hand side of the one above.

After exploring all of Poupry (about an hour) we went back across the highway to Artenay in hopes of getting more information...

These two delightful young people at the

Le Musee du Theatre Forain

in Artenay (a few kms from Poupry) were very obliging in our search for some current day evidence of "Poupry Fougeres". They had no knowledge of Fougeres in the area, but committed to looking further and advising us of any finds.

Two scenes from the cemetery in Artenay...some old, more new graves, but not a Fougere could be found! (the oldest date we found was 1824)

The cool looking green things on the right above are actually carefully manicured plants. There were several around a small grave yard.

A buffet lunch at a local Artenay restaurant...delicious and very inexpensive (not at all like Paris!!), concluded our day in the Poupry area.

On our way back to return our car and catch our train we took a quick tour of Orleans. It seemed to be a nice little city, typical European.
